Has anyone here solved these issues in connecting their 2610 to a computer?

There are two issues I've had:

1. Sometimes the GPS doesn't show up in the transfer window of
MapSource. Instead, one of my other USB-connected devices (Drive W:,
etc.). I'm using an APC USB hub.

2. Sometimes after connecting the GPS, when I turn it on, my computer
does the Blue Screen of Death, and I have to re-boot. It also does this
if I first turn on the GPS and then plug in the connecting cable. After
the re-boot it's usually fine.

I haven't (yet) tried to connect directly to a USB port instead of the
hub, because it's quite inconvenient to reach.

Thanks for your help.

Are you using the latest version of the USB drivers & Mapsource? Check on the
Garmin web site for available updates if you're not sure.

Thanks for that suggestion, Karen.
I have now downloaded the latest drivers (dated 2004) and have tried
twice to download version 6116 of MapSource (I currently run 6115). The
Garmin web site doesn't seem to be up to the task. I'll keep trying.

You might want to connect without the hub. I've had a 2610 for over 4
years and never had a problem getting it to connect.

My USB drivers are:
grmn0200sys:2.7.0.0
grmn0400.sys: 2.10.0.0
grmn1200.sys: 2.3.0.9
grmnusb.sys: 2.1.0.9

I'm also using ver 6.11.6 of Mapsource, so if yours is the same, it's a conflict
or cable fault, I'd suggest.

K

Find out your current drivers within Mapsource, Help, About, USB driver versions.

When I go there, I only get one driver listed: grmnusb.sys:2.1.0.0

I have to use Windows Explorer, and choose properties, version to see
the others:
grmn0200.sys: 2.7.0.0
grmn0400.sys: 2.10.0.0
grmn1200.sys: 2.3.0.0

I'm curious about how you got slightly newer versions of grmn1200.sys
and grmnusb.sys. I can't find them on the Garmin web site.

I downloaded the current beta, found it didn't work well at all, then
re-installed Mapsource 6.11.6 (you also have to reboot, though it does not tell
you that). I'd avoid the current beta at present, it has some nice new features
but has some serious bugs ....
