MapSource Map Sets

I can add maps to a .gdb and upload them. I can also name them. There is
no further reference to the mapset name that I can find nor do they seem
to be stored anywhere. Am I missing something or is the mapset name just
a useless piece of info within a given .gdb?

The mapset name *is* stored in the gmapsupp.img file but many units
don't display it. I know the old 76S does but the 60/70C(s)(x) units
don't. Also Mapsource doesn't seem to display it if the mapset is read
back from the unit. That said I know that G7toWin
(http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm)
*will* show the loaded mapset name.
