Hello All!
Well, it's that time of year again and I'm looking for a GPS for Mom. Any
suggestions for the non-Tech savy user? I got her DSL 2 years ago and Sirius
last year. The learning curve hasn't been too bad...(only get called a
couple of times a week for instructions). OK, so it's not quite that bad.
Anyway, I need a unit that's easy to use, or she won't use it, and spoken
street names. Mp3 and BT not required. Portable use also not required.
Looking to spend between $300-$400. USA maps. No need for topo.
Would the Nuvi350 be OK? I can compare on Garmins site, but I wanted to hear
from poeple the have bought for an older persons use.
All suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks!

I bought a 350 for my wife...she hasn't received it yet (Christmas
Present) but it seemed to fit the criteria you described which also
applies to my wife. Did extensive comparisons and it seemed to be a
sensible choice.

If you get your Mom one for Christmas maybe we can compare their
feedback after a month of use age?

The 350 would be a good choice. You may be able to get the nuvi 260
cheaper.

You might also look at the nuvi 650, which would get you a wider
screen.

I've posted a Garmin nuvi comparison chart at

It may be too late now, but few days ago at least 2 users posted the
information of the Nuvi 680 onsale for around $300 (one by Costco and one by
Fry's).

And you can also find the venerable 2610 for under $200 online

My experience is limited to the Nuvi 350, but it is easy to use and gets the
job done. It is made for the mass market user, not the pro, and it is a
good fit. It should be about $300.

Pegleg, Rich, Mike, Edwin and Joel,
Thanks for all the suggestions and input. Looks like I'll go with the 350.
Pegleg: I'll let you know how it works out. :) Hope your wife likes the 350
too.
