Newbie Question re ETA`

|
| I'm curious as to how the NUVI calculate time of arrival.
Does it average speeds you have been doing, or does it make assumptions
about likely speeds on different types of roads or some other algorithm

If it's anything like my c330, it bases the ETA on the programmed speed
limits on the calculated route. Also, if it's anything like my c330,
it will eventually start to compensate for your average actual driving
speeds. However, it doesn't seem to recognize the speed differential
of highway vs city that well. When it's routing me via a highway, the
ETA always drops the further I go. But when I get off the highway and
take to the city streets, the ETA always goes UP.
It's exceedingly rare for me to be able to get anything remotely near
the posted limits on most of the city streets I wind up on while
following a programmed route, plus it doesn't know about traffic
lights.

It makes assumptions based on the road type. Highway at 65, etc. It will
also adjust as you go. I've found it to be reasonably accurate under normal
conditions.

I don't know about the Nuvi but on the 60CSx you can change the speed
setting for various road types to accommodate your driving
preferences. That way if you are a conservative driver or you are in
lots of stop/go traffic it would be different from a fast driver or
one with low traffic.

Hello. i asked garmin that question and here is there answer
Thank you for contacting Garmin(Europe)Ltd.
The estimated time of arrival is calculated by recalculating every 15
minutes to take into account the previous 15 mins of travel, based (at
unit switch on) on the speed limit or category of the road, but when the
driver is traveling the unit is actually learning on how fast or slow
the driver is going. What that means is that the time will be
recalculated based on the average speed for each road category by the
actual speed of the user.

It's corrected every minute.
Calculate a trip, don't move and your ETA changes every minute.

How do you do that? I can't find anything about it in the 60CSx
manual.

My nuvi 350 doesn't seem to calculate average speed into the ETA. I
was driving home in a huge snowstorm and traffic was maxing out at
40mph when the speed limit was 65. It still estimated my time of
arrival as normal and didn't seem to predict the extra hour it
actually took me.
