I have a 2720. I had the software loaded on my computer that "crashed". Our
new computer is MS Vista and as of yet, I haven't been able to get anything
from the old computer.
We are headed to Charlotte, NC from Meriden, CT in a few days. I do not want
to take I-95. I-95 is the route that the unit provides. How can I avoid that
interstate, in advance, so it won't keep directing us to I-95?
Than ks in advance,
Tim fm CT

I would assume you can select "Avoid highways / toll roads".
Out of curiosity, what do you propose you will take aside from 95 combo (NJ
Turnpike, 95 /895, MD 295) and 85 from Atlanta?

I would assume spending 15 hours on the road is not an option..

Use a map. 84 to 81 to 77. Once on 77 use the Streetpilot to your final
destination. Seriously, once on 84 you just stay between the lines and
watch for signs. You don't need a $750 gadget for that portion of the trip.

GPS Navigation is a wonderful tool, but it does not replace the human brain
and common sense. It only knows the algorithms programmed into it. You can
trick it by plugging in a city near the 84 - 81 route and once there, tell
it to go to your destination. You have to do that with Mapquest if you want
to take anything other than what the computer generates.

I've generated many routes while on trips with my 2720 without using
MapSource. It might be easier with a laptop but the 2720 offers the ability
to add waypoints and adjust your route as you wish. Generally I've found
the screen to be adequate to see "big-picture" routes and can just plug in
one of more waypoints to generate the route I want to take.

With that said, MapSource generates a route using I-95 (I'd use I-287 around
New York City) to I-78, pick up I-81 near Harrisburg, PA, pick up I-77 in
southern Virginia. I-77 runs right into Charlotte.
