Author Cost of Unlocking Additional Device: $9999.99?

I bought a Nuvi650 and got a City Nav DVD from calling the customer
services. Since I heard in the past that Garmin allows you to unlock
up to two devices, I tried to unlock the maps for my Vista Cx. The
Garmin website says I can't unlock but I can purchase for additional
devices online with credit card. I went ahead fowllowing the
instruction by entering the Vista serial number and select the region
(All regions of City Navigator North America NT 2008). I was expecting
a price somewhat lower than the retail of $140. To my surprise, it
came back with a price of $9999.99. I almost give it my credit card
number just to see how far it would go but I chickened out. Is Garmin
trying to send a message that they don't like you to have two devices
using the same map?
What if I buy a new DVD? I would still have to request a unlock code
from Garmin, and will they again ask for $9999.99 minus the retail?

Try giving Garmin a call. It sounds like there is a problem on the website.
A couple months ago I got a new 60Csx and called about unlocking my City
Select and that was $75 as best I can remember. At that price I wound up
buying City Navigator instead as it had newer data and is more suited to the
60series units.

I've just received my 2008 update - ran fine with usual US$125 fee on my first
unit, second upgrade (free in the past) it tried to charge me around US$500.
Local Garmin supplier sells new copies for around half that.

Yep, there's either a bug on the Garmin site still, else they really want us to
go away. Not sure which!
