C-340 stops in route

| How do you make stops in route and keep your trip route, so when you resume,
you continue from where you stopped?
I'm a newbie and on trip "Go Home" stopped at grocer store.
I turned engine off and unit stayed on with screen lit.
I pressed ON/OFF button and screen went off.
When I restarted the engine to leave, the unit did not come on, and would
not come on by pressing the ON/OFF button.
I unplugged the adapter and re-plugged it and the unit came on with Start
screen.
I had to program Go Home again and it performed flawlessly.
There must be a better way. What about overnight stops?

The unit should have come on when you restarted the car. Not sure why
it did a hard restart and reset the waypoints? You might try it again
and if it fails call Garmin support.
