Just bought my Nuvi 350 and love it. Think I got a good deal and more.
Would like to know when the newer version of mapping software will be
out. Mine shipped with v.8 for N America.

Garmin told me new mapping software would be out some time in the April time
frame.

What does this product (City Navigator North America NT v8 Deluxe,
Update Version: 8.00
Date Available: Apr 5, 2006
)
do for me that the Nuvi 350 does not already include?

I'm a bit confused.

TIA... Bob

If you look at the map info or software info on yours and it is already
using CN NA V8 or CN NA NT V8, it would not do anything for you.

If you did not receive a DVD with your nuvi and do have MapSource and
have the same mapping data installed on the PC, acquiring CN NA NT V8 on
DVD will let you install those. They are very nice to have for planning
and for uploading waypoints and routes to your nuvi (if it is one of
the models that allows uploads, I don't have one and can't remember).

At one time, if you bought a one of the preloaded models and it did not
come with a DVD with the mapping, you could call Garmin and ask for it,
and they would send you a DVD so you could install the software on your
PC. I'm not sure if that is still the case or not but it might be worth
a call 1-800-1020 to find out.

On the models that come with the mapping preloaded, you can purchase an
update to the next new version of the software when it is released.
Those updates were $75 this year. Those updates come on a special DVD
that will update the mapping software on a USB connected GPS receiver
when it is run. I think it either uses the unlock info you have or
negotiates an unlock so that the update can only be used with that
single receiver (the one that you have connected at the time the update
software is run).

If you purchase a MapSource product on DVD (CN NA NT V8 for example) you
can unlock it for use with two GPS receivers.

If you buy a preloaded GPS receiver the mapping data in any updates you
buy for the receiver can only be with that one receiver.

Or so I understand it. It is all a little complicated.

Thanks, Jack, for this and the previous reply. It helps a lot. I'll try
giving them a call and see what happens.

That's ok, I had found it. Easy to see how you did it tho. It looked
right to me when I first saw it.
