| Hi,
After losing my geko 301 I'm thinking about downgrading to a 2nd hand
geko 101. The 101 manual says: "If ............ the batteries are
completely discharged you may lose all data stored (such as
waypoints)." Thus I wonder what happens when changing batteries.
Does
the geko 101 --unlike the 301 -- lose its waypoints?
Cheers

It probably has a capacitor that will back up the memory for at least a
few minutes or more to allow for battery changes. You could test that
by putting a couple of waypoints on it and pulling the battery for a
minute or so.

I have one. If the battery runs low it automatically turns off. So don't turn it back
on but put new batteries in, not leaving it battery free for more than a few mins.
Then all data is safe.
I lost 80+ munro summits I had walked, by mistake.

Big disadvantage of the 101 compared to the 201 and 301 is the non-existing
interface.
Data cannot be transferred to and from the 101.
In my opinion the extra costs of the 201 (and 301) is compensated by this
feature.
But then, I have to say, I often have the need to enter/extract lots of
waypoints and use the tracking facility a lot for documentation.

The 101 is for simple walking etc so does not need the interface, hence the other models.

Yes, of course. Nothing against that. Why buy an expensive GPSr when you can
do with a simple one?
That's why I have a Geko 301 and not a....whatever, with features I don't
need.
But if waypoints are valuable to you and you want to safeguard them ,it might
be worthwile to have an interface.
But then... you can as well copy them by hand.....

When 'Battery low' popped up for the third time, I should have
changed the batteries, lesson learnt.
