Author Garmin support for Windoze Vista?
Steve Calvin

A friend of mine just bought a desktop with WindoZe Vista on
it. His version of Mapsource City Select V6 loads but won't
run. Anyone know if they have a download site for Vista?

I searched for it but no luck. I'll call Garmin tomorrow but
thought that someone may already know.

Does Vista have a way of running programs in "Compatibility Mode"? Try
right clicking the icon to Mapsouce, then select Properties, and see
if you can tell Vista to run the program in XP mode, if that's
possible. Just guessing here as I've never seen Vista, but I bet it's
possible.

Actually just did a Google search and Vista does have a compatibility
mode. Here's just one of many links to the topic.

The problem here is that Vista cannot use the original Garmin USB driver
..... you will have to wait until Garmin deems to produce a new driver.

I had the same problem with Windows XP64. Had to dump it for Xp.

They'd be better off slapping a f*cking big banner across their home
page stating they will not be paying microsloth any fees to certify
their drivers, and produce fully working linux versions of their
software.

To all:

Actually, the problem turned out to be that they(WindoZe
Vista) incorporated some freekin' thing like "Administrator
privileges" or some fool thing.

I disabled that and CS worked fine.

Thank for that information. I was going to upgrade for the moviemaker in
Vista. I use my daughter notebook and the Moviemaker is great for what I
want to use it for.
I would have a problem with my GPSs.

I still will wait a few days to upgrade.

A few days? That's not long enough. I'm still on Windows 2000 waiting
for XP to get stable.

I hope Micro$oft does not need my money real bad, because they're not
getting any more of it anytime soon.

I haven't ready to go for Vista yet, but have already heard lot of
disaster about the Vista and new security (or more of copy protection than
security) causes lot of problem to many programs (especially the one uses
activation).

I don't know if Vista will have driver (network driver as WinXP SP2
doesn't have so I have to use the driver came with mboard) or not, and I
about to get 1-2 another notebooks within next few months.

From what I saw (so far) deactivating the "Administrator
privileges" crap it looks like things are ok now.

Some of us are still using 98SE, and likely to stay there until there appears a
better/more_stable OS out there. I suspect our hardware will fade first.

In the meantime, my software can access my I/O ports without complication -
great for GPS and other stuff.
