| Just bought an sd card - RITEK Ridata 4GB 150X Secure Digital Memory
Card (SD Card 4 GB), Model
SDCR4G-SILV. Neither of my computers will recognize the card. One is
a Mac & other is a PC. They both say it needs to be formatted. When
I tried to format w/ the PC there was an error & it said it couldn't
format it. The Mac seems to be stuck - nothing has happened for a
long time. What am I doing wrong?

I've not used that particular brand before. But I've come to expect
flash memory to be so trouble free that I'd think there has to be
something wrong with that card.
I once returned a Lexmark CF card under warranty that was doing a very
similar thing to what you describe. It was replaced and the new one
still works fine. That is the only bad flash memory card I have had.
I'd probably start with a call to Ritek:

If I had researched the card and found the review comments that are on
this site, I probably would not have bought it:

This doesn't have SDHC printed on it? I bought a Sandisk 4 gig SDHC and it
isn't recognized by anything other than its own reader that came with the
card. I bought a plain Transcend 4 gig SD and it works in everything...so
far.
Those SDHC are really funky cards and the list of what they work in is
really short (came with the card).

Its actually this card...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?

that got pretty good reviews so I think you are
probably right - I will call Ritek & talk to them. There must be
something wrong with this particular card.

The review on the silver card seem much better. B~ mentioned the SDHC
thing, I'm not sure where the SDHC cards come into play but I thought
that 4 GB SD cards were available in non-SDHC versions. The sellers
need to start clearly distinguishing the SDHC cards from the standard
cards. Its going to take a while for the hardware to catch up:

| I believe this one is a non-sdhc 4gb card. I tried to make sure of
that before buying b/c I've heard the sdhc will not necessarily work.
It does not say sdhc anywhere on the packaging or on the card itself.
