Author MapSource going down the drain

What's wrong with Garmin? They used to deliver first-rate
quality, but now at least the software looks like garbage to me.

It begins with installing MapSource in the wrong language, in my
case, German, even though I had always installed it in English,
as long as that was possible. This is already a killer.

Then the software stops working properly, as soon as I do
something that isn't absolutely trivial. Latest example:

I export a track in tab-delimited text format. Then I attempt to
read that same file back in. I get a dialog box stating that
this is not a valid format.

Is this one of those malevolent attempts to close the box? Or is
it just plain stupidity and a total lack of quality assurance?

Does anybody know workarounds?

I concur. I have had several StreetPilots and n=FCvis, and every time I
transfer my POIs from the old to the recently purchased GPS the
addresses and phone numbers are lost. This is very annoying and I am
disappointed at Garmin.

The current version of MapSource simply discards phone numbers and
addresses, even when making a transfer from a n=FCvi to another.

Wow! Thanks for the warning! I was about to purchase Mapsource, because I
thought it would be the ONE program that copes with phone numbers. I shall
not buy it!

I thought MapSource came for free with all Garmis GPSs. (?)

My first instinct when I wanted to copy the POIs between two n=FCvis was
that dragging and dropping would be the method. However, when I called
Garmin they told me that the appropriate method is through MapSource,
which promptly proceeded to discard all my addresses and phone
numbers.

Ramon, all,

it seems that MapSource has got into the wrong hands at Garmin,
if it suddenly develops various severe defects.

I hope it's not the entire company, or is this the right time to
sell your Garmin stock? I, for one, am delaying a planned Garmin
device purchase, out of fear of poor quality.
