Author MapSource Changes StreetPilot 2610 Route Waypoints?

I recently starting using a 2610.

I had some routes on the 2610 that were created on the 2610 by placing
waypoints and then building a route with them.

When I downloaded the routes and waypoints to MapSource, all the
waypoints in the routes had been changed to via points. The via points
had the same names as the originally used waypoint with a number added
(home became home1 through home6 for the six routes).

The waypoints were all still there and unchanged, they just were not
used any more.

Is there a work around or something that will keep this from happening?

I kind of prefer the concept of Garmin leaving my data alone as it is
uploaded and downloaded, at least as far as the waypoints in routes and
their names anyway.

Thanks for any help,

Jack

I am curious about this also as I just started using a 2610. My previous gps
was the GPSV and when I built a route using waypoints, it would run me
around in circles when I made it to the first waypoint in the route. When I
needed to go to the second waypoint within the route, it would run me around
the block, ending back at the same place I just left. This was somewhat
embarrassing as I use this to visit properties in real estate sales,
sometimes 10-12 homes a day. To circumvent that behavior, I would not use
the routing, but just select the next waypoint (home) I needed to go to that
I had previously loaded.

I know there is a learning curve with my 2610 and have not used the routing
feature, just the "find & go to" waypoint that I have loaded. Call me gun
shy I guess.

"When I needed to go to the second waypoint within the route, it would

It does tend to be precise with it's viapoints - parking near them is
not good enough. From Diverhank's 2610 undocumented features:

http://home.socal.rr.com/diverhank/...m#_Toc144991156

"You must realize that the Garmin absolutely respects your wish that
the VIA points be honored. In another word, you must sequence each of
the VIA point or it will insist on routing you back to it 3 times
before giving up. If you change your mind, you must remove the VIA
point."
