Saving waypoints across map replacement?
|
|
| Andrew 2007-03-25, 10:33 am |
| I own a Quest that came with City Select NA V7 (full DVD in hand). I
understand for the Quest, this has been replaced by the City Navigator V8.
I'd like to buy the new map, but am concerned that I'll lose all my
waypoints.
Can someone explain the procedure for ensuring my waypoints are not lost
when I upload new maps?

City Navigator V7 was probably the current edition of CN at the time you
got that. CN V8 is a more recent edition of CN and has updated data.
As a previous owner, you can get an upgrade from V7 to V8 from Garmin
for $75.00. Details are here:

If you have the Quest (not the Quest II) you have to install CN V8 to
your PC, the upgrade to V8 won't directly update the maps in the Quest.
Then you'll have to select the mapping you want from the MapSource
install on the PC and upload a new map to the Quest. That will not
erase or overwrite the waypoint or route data you have there, it will
just overwrite the existing map file with a newer one.
But in the interest of not losing your data, when you have the Quest
connected to your PC to update the maps, you could first download your
routes and waypoints and save those on your PC in a *.gdb file as a
backup.
I save a backup as a matter of routine whenever I connect to my PC, that
probably explains why I've never needed the backups.
