| I have been looking for quite some time for software to go along with
my garmin etex vista. I hate to spend the amount of money that they
want for the software without at least trying it out first. Does
anyone know where you could get even a trail copy to see if the
software is worth the money they want for it? Thanks a lot in advance
for your help!

Which software are you referring to? And no, I'm not volunteering my
software, I'm just curious. Admittedly, either the Topo Maps or or CityNav
Maps add a bit to the price tag of your GPS, but I don't know if you have
too many choices.
While I'm not as experienced as some of the others on this forum, I have no
complaints about either Topo USA or CityNav North America. I own both as
they fill different niches. While the topo may not be as detailed as a paper
map, I've had no problems when using these maps for geocaching. I've relied
on CityNav when traveling to cities I'm not familiar with and so far, I've
not had any major problems, either driving there or navigating around the
city after flying in.
Sit in on the forum for a while. I think you'll find there's reason enough
to trust the mapping programs. Most of the problems that crop up are usually
attributable to either user error or the occasional hardware malfunction as
opposed to anything being intrinsicly wrong with the mapping software.

You can't try it but Garmin's Mapsource Viewer, available here
http://www.garmin.com/cartography/ , allows you to see what you are going to
get with those products.

I don't think the trail will look any difference than what you are =
seeing
on your old map. IOW, it won't do anything besides displaying map.
There may be few newer routes other than that you should already knew =
what
it may look like.

| Download any locked Garmin map form a p2p source like emule or torrent.
Then in MapsSource add the key "DEMO" where you normaly input the 25 digit
code.
This unlock all Garmin map so you can send it to the GPS.
PS GPS goes to demo mode, so you need to remove "DEMO" key from MapSoure and
transfer new map to the unit.
