MapSource software version 6.12.2 as of March 1, 2007

Changes made from version 6.11.6 to 6.12.2:
Changed the default file format to GDB version 3.
Added web links. This feature allows user created internet search
options to appear on context menus. These search options can use
either location or name information.
Added a MiniMap.
Added new waypoint symbols (contacts, geocache, hunting, etc.).
Added support for multiple links on waypoints, routes, and tracks.
Added additional guidance for the user when clicking on the 'View in
Google Earth' menu item.
Added support for writing waypoints, routes, and tracks to SD cards
for new chart plotters.
Enhanced the driving directions page in the route dialog to provide
additional statistics.
Added a notes area to the route dialog. These notes are printed with
driving directions.
Added two options to the routing preference 'Try to Avoid' list:
ferries and seasonal road closures.
Added support for multi-line comments for waypoints.
Added a transfer preference to specify if (and which) serial ports
should be searched for Garmin devices. This should solve problems for
users that have badly behaved internal modems that cause MapSource to
hang.
Added the ability to join tracks from the Tracks page.
Added track color to the list on the Tracks page.
Changed the behavior of the track draw tool to populate the elevation
in tracks if the map product has DEM elevation data.
Changed several feature symbols (mountain peak, city, and airport) to
be smaller so they don't obscure as much of the map. This only applies
when the large symbol size is selected.
Adjusted the layout of several preference pages for improved
usability.
Changed the behavior of several dialogs to ignore the degree symbol in
user provided coordinate strings.
Fixed an issue when selecting map sets larger than 4 GB in size.
Fixed an issue with saving files to offline network drives.
Fixed an issue with preserving line feeds inside of comments in GPX
files.
Fixed an issue with printing when the 'No Map' product is selected.
Fixed some line rendering issues on Blue Chart map products.
Fixed an issue with some postal code address searches not finding
results.

Well I downloaded from link above and had no problems updating on 2
computers running XP home edition service pack 2. It also removed beta
version 6.12.02. Did you update from inside MapSource?

The internal stuff is borked, you have to go to the Garmin site & do it
manually as per Jerry's links ... both Webupdater & Mapsource built in updaters
can't find the updates properly yet.

I downloaded the updates from the Garmin website and tried to install
manually. I did not install from inside of MapSource. It would go as
far as the "unzipping" window and then close. It left an empty "Local
Settings\Temp\Garmin
Software Updates" folder and no file changes in the
"C:\Garmin" folder.
ALL previous updates (6.10.2, 6.11.1, 6.11.3 and 6.11.5) were downloaded
and installed manually with success. I am running WinXP SP2 with the
latest patches. Any help is appreciated.

Like I posted before had no problems at all updating my 2 computers.
Did you check to make sure your download was complete or maybe you had
a partial download? Windows shows 46.4mb when I highlight the file I
downloaded and under properties it shows- 46.4 MB (48,655,448 bytes)
for the size of the file.

Garmin, being an international company, doesn't offer a language

After unzipping the update, find the directory with the language files,
and delete the spanish one. Then it will install in english.
Or at least, it did for me, after deleting the danish one, last time
I updated.

Yes! I checked the file sizes and they were correct! I downloaded the
file two times and both times they were the same size as what Garmin
said they would be.
A more complete listing of my installed products shows:
Trip and Waypoint Manager v2 2.0
USTopo Alaska 3.01
USTopo East 2.01
USTopo West 3.01
A Google search has shown that other people are having this problem too!
I have to update software on a regular basis at home and at work. I
know how to check for proper downloads and installs. If I can't find
the answer on my own, then I contact the vendor of user groups like this.

I'm afraid I'm another satified up-dater. I didn't even download the file into
the Garmin directory, as suggested, but onto another drive altogether. The only
pause was when it was waiting for ZoneAlarm to ask me if it could do something
or other.
Fast and clean, as far as I went.
Win XP Pro, MapSource 11.? (latest), North America v8 & Europe v9 installed.
Unit a streetpilot c530.

Please look at my latest post in the previous thread "Unable to Update

diagnostics there. Please tell me what you think. I will be contacting

Jerry:
I had a talk with Garmin Tech support on Friday and they put me through
to their PC people. I gave them some pretty detailed diagnostics as
follows:
1) Step by step what I did for a complete re-install starting with the
original CD and each update patch.
2) What each update patch did and what I found in C:\Garmin and my
Local Settings\Temp dir after running each update.
3) What differences I found between the good update patches and the bad
ones.
Hopefully, this made a difference.

I had no problems updating to 6.12.2 on three computers - 1 x XP Home,
2 x XP Pro - but the problem I have encountered is with new installs
of the French GPS Topo maps. Existing installations show all the
detail when zoomed in, but a new/updated one (v1.22 of Topo 1 Alpes
has just been released) will only show the basemap that comes with the
map set. Some experimentation has shown that the problem is not with
the GPS Topo maps, as a new install of v1.0 to a computer that did not
have it before show the same problems; new install of Topo 3 v1.30
(Provence) on the same virgin computer has the same problem, whereas
the previous installation of the same version on the other is still
fine. All other installed maps sets continue to work OK

Further to this - the problem is solved if you run the 6.11.6
installer. Even though it does not 'downdate' the program (it remains
as 6.12.2) it provides something essential during the install process
which enables the French map detail to be viewed. Something missing
from/wrong with 6.12.2 installer, clearly.

Jerry:
The Mar 9 version is the same file size as the earlier version and has
the same install problems too, failing on the unzip. I converted the
..EXE unzip to a plain-old .ZIP, unzipped this .ZIP, ran the SETUP.EXE
and I am now successfully using 6.12.2 for about an hour. All is good.
As I said in an earlier post the problem is with the failure of
executable zip that is part of the update package.

There are clearly problems with the 6.12.2 install package that Garmin
needs to fix up.
