I am trying to register my copy of Mapsource TOPO Great Britain with
Garmin, however on the product registration page the drop down menu for
Mapsource products does not include TOPO GB. Any ideas please?

The only products I have registered with garmin are my gps units not
the maps themselves.

Are you trying to register your product or unlock the maps. Not all
Garmin map products are locked. I think that TOPO does not need to
be unlocked (I don't have it so I can't say for sure).

I was trying to register. I did have to unlock the map so Garmin probably
knows knows about it anyway, which is perhaps why it's not in the drop down
menu.

This thread brings up a some questions for me. When I
bought my GPS unit (Etrex Legend) I figured a generic US
base map would be sufficient, so didn't worry about any
alternate base map issues. However, next month I will be
in the UK and have agreed to navigate for another person
with little experience driving over there, so am considering
adding a suitable map for use over there. On to the
questions:

- Can I simply add another map to the unit, or would it
replace my current (default) base map?

- Is the UK Topo map a decent one for navigating more or
less major roadways? (As a bonus, I imagine taking a
nice walk or two in Wales and Cornwall for which topo
info would be nice.)

- Is there another map that would make more sense for
UK driving? We'll be almost exclusively outside
major cities, travelling from Manchester through
Wales to Plymouth, then knocking around a bit in the
Cornwall/Devon/Dorset/Wiltshire area.

I have browsed a bit on the Garmin web site, but am not clear
on whether my particular, 2-year-old unit is as expandable
as what they currently sell. (And don't know that I want
to spend US$100+ on a map for use for a week or so, but
that is another issue entirely.)

I can only comment on the Topo GB map. It's fine for navigating by road &
include most (if not all major & minor roads. It's not that good for
footpaths though.

As for adding other maps the user guide for the eTrex Vista covers this
quite well so perhaps the guide for your Legend will also.

For walking in Wales & Cornwall I'd use an OS map as well.

TopoGB is locked, all the Metroguide Europe's are not. Metroguide
Europe 9 has just been released.
