Author File Transfer Speed: Vista Cx vs 60 CSx

Is there any difference between the file transfer speeds of these two units.
I have the Vista CX, and while it has been a good unit, I'm thinking of
upgrading to the 60 CSx. I'm hearing so many good things about this unit,
manly because of the benefit of the SiRF chipset.

One of the frustrations I have now the slow file transfer between my
computer and the Vista Cx. I am indeed using USB 2.0 and my PC was just
purchased at the beginning of January. I got a nice speed boost with all my
other programs, but the file transfer speed is still slow between the Garmim
and the computer. Is the 60 CSx any faster in this regard?

I think Garmin uses USB V1. To get faster download of large files (maps)
remove microSD card and insert into a suitable card reader. Mapsource will
recognise the card and download to it at much higher speed.

Thanks! I'll try that next time I need to transfer a large batch of data.

Correct. But that's not why it's so slow. It's slow because Garmin uses
a very low-power chipset. It does that because it doesn't want the unit
to run your batteries out quickly. The normal, faster, chipset used in a
desktop computer is bigger, and draws a lot of power from the unit and you
would have to change the unit's batteries more frequently.

Yep. Buy yourself a cheap SD card reader (microSD for the GPSmap 60CSx, I
don't know what the Vista uses) and everything will fly in comparison.
