I am finding it impossible to get my POI files to work on my new
Garmin Legend Cx.

I can use ready made POIs or I can make .gpx files using Mapsource
TOPO or I can make .csv files using notepad. They transfer ok using
'POI Loader' but they don't work when they arrive on the GPS.

Regardless of the symbol they are created with, they appear as a small
grey circle which has no properties. They are not searchable by name.
Or by proximity. And hovering the pointer does not highlight them like
a waypoint or other object.

I Hate to say it because I could well be wrong, but this is starting
to look like a software problem with the Legend Cx.

Has anyone actually got custom POIs to work with a new Legend Cx?

Has anyone managed to do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I bet you're not trying to access the info in the right spot.

Hold down the FIND button. When the next screen comes up, scroll to
the bottom where you will see an icon titled "Custom Points of
Interest,. When you select and click on that, you will get a list of
PIOs, in order of distance from your spot.

Yes you're right. I wasn't aware of the new 'Custom points of
interest' icon that appears after a download.

And now that I've upgraded tp Poi Loader V2.4 all my POIs highlight
when the pointer goes over them. It also looks as if you can replace
the grey circle with an Icon although I haven't worked out how to do
this yet.

This is a big step forward.

Not the big step forward that I thought.

POIs do appear to highlight but only if you search them using 'Find'
and then select 'Map'.

Then the map screen you get seems to be a special case. It shows the
POI that you searched for and allows it to highlight and display it's
name on the map but it doesn't do this in the 'normal' map screen that
you would be using in real navigation. What this means is that you
would have to be constantly searching for 'nearest' if you were ever
going to be aware of custom POIs.

Am I missing something? Has anyone actually got these to work with a
Vista/Venture/Legend? It seems to me that using ordinary Waypoints
would be far more useful.

Pesky POIs.

And no response from the Garmin helpdesk either. I'll try them again.

One thing I hadn't realized was that when you do a search on "Custom
Points of Interest", in the results screen, if you hit Menu, you can
choose which database you're looking at. Doesn't help get them on the
map screen, but it's still interesting.
