Batteries dead? Does your model get power from USB or are you using
the round connector? If you're using batteries you'll see the gauge on
the gps. If you're powered, you'll see a power plug icon.

No batteries dead, they are fresh new. the device is linked (and
powered) by USB on that moment with my pc. First backlight turns off and
then it (the gps) slowly shuts down as i said.

That sounds like a major hardware problem to me. Like maybe the display
back lighting is shorting out and over loading the battery or something.

I'd probably be trying to get an RMA number to get it sent back in for
repair. Or maybe try to work out an exchange with the dealer for a
replacement unit.

Regarding your USB connection: Are you using a non-powered USB hub? The
non-powered variety sometimes have a hard time maintaining the 5v needed to
keep the device running. If you're using a powered hub or a USB port on your
PC, it would be something else...
