I think you're right that Garmin does not intend you to be able to do
that.

But if you could find a buyer and unlock the software to their GPS
receiver's Unit I.D., that would prove that they are getting a working
software. They could then install it on their PC and use it with no
problems. Of course, they are getting used software with only one
unlock and their ownership rights may be dubious so I'd think they would
not be likely to place much value on the the software.

I'd call 1 800 800 1020 and dig in on the consumer relations/tech
support or customer support people there pretty harshly if I were a Mac
user.

They have not said much or anything more about their big plans for the
Mac software. They made that optimistic promise of Mac software just in
time to get on the Christmas sales bandwagon and then have not said
anything more. They owe you some explanations.

Maybe the irony is that the "easiest to use computer" is not the easiest
to develop software for?

I'd buy a cheap PC on try one of the Mac Windows emulators for now.
Windows it not that complicated, if you can use a Mac you can use a PC.
