Author Quick was to erase waypoints from a Garmin 2610, and even a GPS60?

Is there a way I can quickly and easily erase most ALL the waypoints I have
stored in the 2610 and GPS60 easily without having to manually delete 1 at a
time from the Unit? When I do a dump to it for Geocaching, I want to clear
it and upload a bunch more, while still leaving a few on like HOME.

Where are you doing the dump from? MapSource? If so edit those
geocache waypoints in MapSource to get rid of any you don't want.

Then start a second instance of MapSource and download all the waypoints
from the 2610 to MapSource. Save them all to a backup *.gdb file
immediately unless you're feeling lucky. Then delete the waypoints you
don't want. Select all waypoints, copy, and paste them into the first
MapSource window.

Delete all the waypoints from the 2610 and upload the waypoints from the
MapSource window that has the keepers. Save those to another back if
you not feeling lucky.

My GPS60cx has a menu option of "delete all" if you scroll down from
just "delete". Then it will ask you what symbol type waypoints to
delete. Choose the geocache icon and they are gone! James

Right now I'm using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) to do my Dumps into
my 2610, GPS60, and Pocket PC. I just need a simple way to clear out all
the waypoints from the 2 garmin units so I can do a fresh dump with GSAK
into them. My Pocket PC updates GSAK as needed and then I update
Geocaching.com. I don't even currently have Mapsource installed right now.
I have no plans to dump the Data from the Garmin units back to my PC as
almost ALL the Data from the original .GPX file is lost, so there's no
point. I'm using the 2610 to get to the General Area, there doesn't seem
to be a good PPC Navigation program that I can dump waypoints into. So I
can look on the PPC what cache I want to go to, and pick it on 2610 to get
me in the area and then back to the PPC to find it and write or record some
notes to dump later back on GSAK on the PC later. The GPS60 is basically
just backup now.

If there was a simple program that I could say read the waypoints stored on
the 2 garmin units and just highlight the ones I don't want and then just
delete them, that would be perfect. Before this wasn't really a problem.
a 500 Limit seemed Huge to me. I would print out some Geocache locations,
maybe 10 or so and go looking. With the PPC, I can have Hundreds of places
with me at all times, even find a Open Wi-Fi Spot(Which is pretty easy) and
grab new ones for whatever area I happen to be in using GeoScout. Between
GeoScout, GSP Tuner, CacheMate, BeeLine GPS, and BackCountry Navigator 2
I've been trying out on my PPC, just trying to figure out what's the Best to
use, or a couple together as they each have their strong Points, but Having
a Pointer point the way to find a cache from a long distance doesn't work.
That would be like picking a waypoint on my Garmin GPS60 and trying to
figure out how to get to that location a mile away or whatever. You need to
Navigate there with Maps, and well my Garmin 2610 has updated Maps and can
easy dump waypoints into it. I wish is was as simple with a good PPC
program. Using like Mapopolis or iGuidance, but for some unknown reason
they just don't have this feature.

This is 2 weeks now of having my PPC and going paperless. A few negatives
right now, but lots of positives. Just have to work out some of these
minor bugs and get more used to the software I'm now using. I just need to
clear out the waypoints so I can do a simple dump. It doesn't seem to dump
over the top of the ones already there.

I don't know about your models in particular, but here's a little 'easter egg' I
found for the c330.

Perform a Hard Reset to Clear Your GPS:
1. Turn GPS off
2. Press and hold the bottom right hand corner of the screen
3. Turn the GPS on (and continue to hold the right hand corner)
4. A warning screen will appear and ask if you want to continue

This will erase all your custom data. This is excellent after buying a used unit
or after moving to clear all your data.

On the 2610:
Find, waypoints, menu, delete all
Similar on a GPSMap 60CSx,
Not sure about a GPS60 though

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.'

That worked. Deleted my HOME, but I can live with that. It also work for
the GPS60 also, a few more options to pick from but it worked. That helps.
I was thinking of getting a GPSMAP 60CSx, but for the price of one, I
finally decided to go with the Used almost new Pocket PC. It's a HP IPAQ
2795, it's fast, lots of storage, and built in fingerprint scanner for
Security. If I ever happen to loose it, and someone finds it and try's
getting the data on in one to many times it just Hard Deletes and Erases
everything on to back to stock. It's Encrypted including the SD and Compact
flash cards. Paid a good used price and it looks new and works like NEW and
came with a Hard Case. It's just so much more Flexible. With all the
Geocaching program I can use with it, all loaded up at the same time, and
the Navigation software installed on it, plus the other handy software I've
installed, it's just really handy to have now. It'll be easier though to
use the 2610 as I can see the screen better while I'm on the road, it has
newer maps, and a External antenna plugged into it for better Reception.
The GPS60 is pretty easy to use, and cheap, and great for Kids. If I have a
group with me, maybe my Nephews with me, they can use the GPS60. Pop in the
correct waypoint and they should be able to follow the arrow, and if they
drop it or whatever, it's just not such a big deal. Now that I know how to
quickly delete all the waypoints, it's much better. Erase, and then Dump in
a bunch for whatever I want. Different town, or a different type of
Geocache. I can have Thousands on my PC and just load up the ones I
currently need in a matter of a minute or so for the first one, and the
second one in a matter of seconds to resend to the other Garmin GPS.

Now that I think about it. I can Dump my HOME waypoint to my PC, and then
send that along with all the other Geocache locations at the same time. I
would still have it that way. Ummm. I think I'm getting some other Idea's.
Will have to give it some more thought. Thanks for the help.
