Following up to my own post here....
I picked up a Nuvi 680 and had a chance to try it out with MSN Direct today,
after activating the subscription on the web.
It failed to achieve an active connection on my 35-minute morning commute,
which gets with 15-20 miles of the Chicago loop, but was active when I left
work tonight. I'd left the 680 in the car with the power cord attached
although it wasn't powered up. Maybe it made an active connection during
the day some time, using the onboard battery. It detected a traffic slow
down on the way home, but lost the connection at about a 20-25 mile radius
of downtown Chicago center. One of the displays shows the MSN Direct signal
strength, which is a nice feature that would have been appreciated on my old
Nuvi 350 with TMC subscription.
