| Dear All
I have been using an etrex to mountain bike through the tracks around
Kilimanjaro.
I wanted to download the tracklogs and way points. I have purchased a
USB to GPS cable from GPS warehouse in the UK.
As far as I can tell I have loaded this correctly- My device manager
now reports a Prolific USB to serial Comm Port Comm3 ) when I
connect the GPS.
However when I attempt to connect to the GPS using Trackmaker
through the e Garmin interface, comm. Port 3 is available but I
only have the option of connecting through a serial port, the USB
option is not available ( it is faint) . I then get the message that
there is no data on the serial port.
I read somewhere that if your computer has USB connectors for mouse
and keyboard this can cause conflicts.
Any ideas?
Many thanks

I assume you are talking about GPS Trackmaker, if so see:-

Alternatively to check the cable, use a comms program, like
hypertermial,
configure to use the port, use a loopback connector, a paper clip/
piece of
wire between pins 2 & 3 and you should see what you type echoed back
to the
screen, alternatively hook up your GPS to the cable and set it to NMEA
protocol and view the output using the comms program
