New Zumo, to replace the New Zumo!
|
|
| Greybeard 2007-03-22, 12:33 pm |
| Took delivery today of the New Zumo 550 to replace the one that dies 3 weeks
ago.
The shop I bought it off was giving me lots of agg about repairing it or
replacing it. They couldn't get any answers from the supplier so I asked for
a full refund. Got it, eventually.
Ordered a new one last night from:
http://www.gpssite.co.uk/viewpro.asp?p=171&v=2
Cheapest I could find, and I'd never tried nor heard of them.
Sent an email to ask a couple of questions about delivery and was answered
immediately. Place order about 16:30-ish yesterday.
On my doormat around midday today, one nice new gleaming Zumo 550 for the
use off, sir.
Fantastic service from these guys.
No relation, just a very satisfied customer.
I hope, that should this one develop a problem, the chaps at GPS Site will
be just as helpful.

Not haggling, just curious. If you find that cheaper outside the UK,
like in the U.S. and order it from there, can you wind up saving
anything after customs duties and other taxes are added? I assume not
but was wondering.
Good luck with the new one!

Hi Jack,
Sometimes you can be lucky on saving, if you can skip the taxes. I get a lot
of my Harley bits sent in from the US and make a good saving, roughly £ / $.
I haven't looked at GPS savings, as the US ones used to have different base
maps. I'm not sure that's the case any more though.
Lets hope this one works out better. I bought 2 originally, at the same
time. My one was nothing but trouble, but the other one, for my colleague,
has been faultless.
It finally died, when the little gold battery contacts broke, through me
having to remove the battery so often because it locked up "on" and I could
turn the damned thing off!
What is the average price of a 550 in the US, by chance?
Cheers.

Thanks for the info. The 550's can be gotten for about $700 (GBP357) or
so from internet and eBay sellers. We're a little luckier over here on
the tax bites I think.
They are selling a lot of zumo 550s to bikers over here, that new
(slightly dumber/less capable) zumo 450 will probably be down to around
$400-450 or so in another six months of so and that will be a popular
seller I think.
I just got a RAM mount for my 2610 on my Dyna FXD, that will satisfy my
needs for a while. I also sometimes use my 76Cx there sometimes. I
have cradles for both so it is just a case of grabbing one and plugging
in. I don't use the audio and am not interested in the Bluetooth or XM
brain candy.
About another month of winter here before I can take a ride. The roads
up here in Maine really took a beating this year, I'm in no hurry to get
back out on them.

Visit www.gpsonsale.com and take a look. I got mine for $669. Of course then
there is shipping on that. I think mine total was $687.
