My IQ3600 that I bought in 2004 will no longer acquire satellites. I've
heard that there has been a problem with the flip-up antenna and that Garmin
would repair/replace any unit with the problem that was still under
warranty.

Mine isn't. Garmin wants a $150 flat fee to fix the problem. My question
is: is it worth it or should I just invest the money in another GPS system?
The PDA part of the 3600 still works fine.

I don't know if I'll buy another Garmin as it appears that they knew about
the problem from the beginning but didn't do anything about it unless
someone complained.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I had the same problem, and it was out of warranty by a number of months,
and they still fixed it for free. I've gotten my money's worth many times
over from the piqué and haven't found a portable unit with all the PDA
functions to this day.

My recommendation, call back again, be nice, and see what they can do to
help. Maybe you'll get a great technician like I did...

On eBay I see an external antenna for $20 -

maybe this is an answer.

Otherwise, a complete, refurbished system with warrantee seem to be in the
$200-250 range...
