Jack you are taking a big risk changing card while unit is turned on.
Here is what garmin states in my lengend Cx manual:
NOTE: Do not remove the microSD card from the unit while it is turned
on, as corruption of data can result.

If data corruption is the only thing they are worried about, then I
wouldn't have a problem with doing it. Worst case the corruption is
so bad that the card needs to be reformatted, and since the maps
can be put back on with MapSource, the only loss is the time used.

And even then, it is highly unlikely that the maps would be corrupted,
data corruption happens when the card is pulled while being *written to*
and apart from when uploading maps, the unit doesn't write to the maps.
It only writes to the track file, and only if that feature is turned
on. If not, I don't see any reason the unit should write to the card
at all.

Thanks for the info Jerry, I had sort of wondered about the
consequences. At least that should be something I can fix by reloading
the map file. I don't do it on purpose, it generally happens when I go
to turn it on after swapping a card and find it already on.
