Author load extra routes/waypoints from MicroSd card?

I'm headed off for 2-3 months without access to a computer to DL new
routes/waypoints into the Venture Cx. Currently the unit is loaded
with 39 routes and maxed out at 500 waypoints.

As I finish and delete existing routes/waypointsIs it possible to load
route information from my 1 gig Micro sd card currently installed and
somehow transfer the info from the installed card into the venture cX
or is there a way of reading this information directly off the sd
card.

a noobie to GPS (but very good with map and compass!)

Thanks
Fred

Unfortunately there is no provision in the "x" series models for loading
routes and waypoints from or saving them to the microSD card.

That is one of the things that was easily done with the Magellan
Meridians I had owned previously, I miss that feature and can't
understand why Garmin has not implemented it.

If I were going to take a longer trip and wanted to take routes and
waypoints with me for backup or because they would not all fit, I'd save
them to a *.gpx file on an extra microSD card.

I'd also take a copy of the MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager CD that
came with my 76Cx with me on the chance that I could install it on a
computer somewhere along the route if I had to add data or recover from
a loss.

You can also make copies of your gmapsupp.img map files and store those
on a CD or DVD. Those map files will work when copied to a card later.
If it has maps for a unlocked product it will only work on the
receiver it was unlocked for.

One of the recent software updates for the 60/76 "x" series models added
a Card Info menu that gives some information and statistics on the
contents of the memory card. That menu had a blank sub menu, maybe
Garmin is working on adding some card utilities that will allow us to
get more use out of the unlimited memory capacity of these receivers.

Thanks,
Here's another potential option.
I do have a PDA running WM5 which has a USB port - Is there any gps
utilty that would allow me to transfer gpx files into the Garmin
Venture Cx?

I think not. At least not yet. The missing piece of the puzzle for
doing that seems to be a Garmin USB driver for WM and/or the earlier
flavors of the Pocket PC OS.

Garmin has some fairly new products that are sort of approaching that
capability with the Mobile 10 and Mobile 20 Bluetooth receivers and
software packages. More about those here:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=138

There are some third party GPS utilities for the PC that will use the
Garmin USB ports for both up/downloads and also for receiving NMEA data
from a connected Garmin receiver. But I don't know of a software like
that for WM PDAs.
