Has any one tried using a 2gig microSD card in a Vista CX?
Thought I'd ask before I go buy one.
Thanks

Ah, finally one that I can answer.

I just loaded 2020 map segments (1.6 GB) into a no-name 2GB card in my
Legend Cx (similar to the Vista) and it works just fine.

Just keep the number of maps below the 2025 limit. And be prepared for a
long wait. The whole process took 5+ hours on a 2.2 GHz Athlon 64
running at 100%. I don't know if that's typical.

5+ hrs? did you transfered the map using GPS or card reader? Just
wondering cuz I don't have what you have.

Card reader. But the time required to actually transfer the gmapsupp
file to the memory card is trivial compared to the time my computer
takes to compile it in the first place. As I mention previously I don't
know if that's typical.

Thanks for the response. I read many people here mentioned about it take
## minutes downloading the entire map from either hard drive or DVD to card
reader.

I am using old GPS which only support up to 256M (and I only have 2 128M
those I paid around $130+ apop years ago) and it takes around 10-15 minutes
to transfer to USB (kinda serial->USB adapter). Before that my older
Garmins have serial cable and it took nearly 2 hours to transfer around
16-64M of data (I believe my oldest one has 16M internal memory, and the
other I started with 64M Data-Card which was the largest at the time)

I have the legend Cx and standard 2gb micro sd card works fine. Do
not use the ultra II cards from Sandisk just the standard cards in all
the x units. All the x models can use standard 2gb mico sd cards with
no problems.

I don't own any of the above, but I just want to make sure that I get more
detail info. I do understand that most hardwares like GPS, digital camera
etc. usually won't benefit from ultra-speed. But my question is

- Does the Cx work with the Ultra? or it's incompatible or have some issue
with the Ultra?

IOW, someone may run into good deal on the Ultra, or can use it on other
thing, or having a spare laying around etc. they want to use on the Cx.
Thanks for the info.

From the Garmin FAQ:
Q. What is the largest size microSD card that I can use in my X-series GPS
unit?
A. At this time, the 2 GB cards are the largest microSD cards that can be
used for the X-series GPS units. However, the X-series GPS units are not
compatible with the San Disk Ultra II cards and we do not recommend using
the Ultra II micro SD cards with any of the X units.
