Author File Format?

Ok guys, I own several Garmins.

For that, I save everything in a [.gpx] file. My [.gpx] files contain
both waypoints and tracks. Is there an 'industry standard' format that
will work with most units/mapping software? I want to share some files
with others regardless of their unit brand. My other 'save' formats
within Mapsource include [.gdb], [.mps] & [.dxf].

Ideas please! Thanks, James

[.gpx] files themselves can be read by a lot of software and GPSBabel will
convert a .gpx file to just about any format out there.

There are a number of flavors of ASCII text files that will work in one
place or another, and also either tab or comma delimited ASCII text files.

If you want to look at more options for moving data from one file type
to another, my recommendation is GPS Utility. Check out the trial
version from the link below, it has some excellent information on the
various file formats in it help file. GPS Utility is not free ware but
it is a very versatile and good program.

There are a number of other third party freewares and sharewares listed
here, all of them are known to work and are good to some extent or another:
