I have a StreetPilot C580 and have a great time learning about it.
My question is is there a way to take your Favorites and port them to a
POI file?

If its like Nüvi. yoou can copy the file current.gpx from yhe GPS
(\Garmin\gpx folder) to your PC.
Then alter them with MapSource and then stor to your GPS using POI Loader.

You can upload and download POIs using Mapsource. You cal also save
them in different directories. I save them by major city or region,
such as NYC, Charlotte, Washington DC areas. I can then load only
those I need for a given trip to the GPS receiver.

Are you using the MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager which they sell for
$29.95? If so, does it have additional poi's other than the ones that come
with the Nuvi or do you just add your own in via the program?

Use MapSource, which might have come with your unit or you may be able
to talk Garmin into mailing it to you, or a third-party application
like EasyGPS or g7ToWin (google them, I don't recall their URLs) to
download your Favorites to your desktop. From there, within the
software, you should be able to extract the info needed. Depending on
which software, you may be able to export to text, copy&paste, or need
to do it manually.

No you can't. You can up and download Favorites (waypoints). You can
upload new POIs into a custom POI listing with the POI Loader software,
but I don't think you can download POIs. At least, I haven't found a
command in Mapsource to do that.

Is there any advantage using the EasyGPS with a Nuvi? It seems that the
program was intended for use with off road gps units.
