Least expensive place to purchase Europe map for Nuvi 360?
|
|
|
| Hi. We purchased a Nuvi 360 for our daughter, which she loves. She
will be in Europe this summer and we thought about purchasing the
European maps for her until we saw the price tag of $299.99 which is 3/4
the cost of what we paid for the 360! (special at Fry's.com)
Anyone know of a place to purchase the maps at discount?
Thanks

Try in Europe... Current price for CN EU v9 seems to be around
half that.

I can't read flemish, but someone pointed out this place a while ago -=20
at the time it worked out to about =A372 which is around $144
I know this links to the "old" version, but if they shipped that,=20
you'd get the free upgrade out of Garmin anyway.

Mind if I ask where, as Garmin don't normally allow sales of CN:EU in
europe without having to buy hardware you don't need (obviously the
site I linked to is an exception, not sure how they got that through!)

| You might want to look into purchasing another GPS unit in Europe
itself which might cost you less than the European Garmin maps:

If you look harder, you can find other "no-name" European units for
even more attractive prices.

Huh? How on earth would us 60/76 series owners get a map for our GPS,
if we couldn't buy CN EU?
Most (if not every) Garmin dealers that sell the handhelds which have
only the basemap also sell CN EU.
Besides, laws around here tend to be rather tough about bundling.

As part of "automotive bundles" - which included a beanbag mount or=20
mounting brackets.

It's certainly changed from when I tried a couple of years ago then,=20
although I see little evidence from the likes of aspidshop who were=20
forced to withdraw the maps within a couple of days from when they=20
started to sell them on their own. Aspidshop still don't list it,=20
unless they've added it in the last 36 hours or so.
A couple of quotes from a Garmin email are:
"We DO NOT sell MapSource City Select Europe as stand-alone package
here in Europe. We never had. City Select Europe ONLY comes bundled=20
with units or in Automotive kits for some units, such as the GPSMAP=20
60C, 76C, etc."
"NAVTEQ has nothing to do with the decision to sell the City Navigator=20
Europe only bundled with the GPS units in Europe. This decision is a=20
Garmin decision to protect our wide network of very supportive=20
distributors and dealers in Europe."
Note that these are direct quotes from Laura Tomei, International=20
Cartography Manager, Garmin Europe, from December 2004.
I ended up having to buy a GPS18 to get the maps to use on my 2620, as=20
the only other option was to import them from the US or somewhere else=20
outside the EU (the GPS18 with maps was cheaper than the autmotive=20
bundles).
As a result, I bought the domain garminsuck.com and published some of=20
the correspondence - they even tried to sell me CS:EU maps on their=20
own for almost =A350 more than the same bloody maps with a GPS18.
I actually "saved" money by buying hardware I didn't want (which has=20
never been used and is still on a shelf behind me) and the domain so I=20
could XXXXX about them, rather than taking up their "offer" of more=20
expensive maps.

Where is "here" in your instance, because they seem very thin on the=20
ground in the UK.

I ended up buying a mounting bracket and CN EU, because that was
much cheaper than the bundle including both.

Denmark or EU (just ask Microsoft).
