The GoCampingAmerica.com web RV directory is available as a POI file
at http://www.gps-poi-us.com/poifiles.html

Why direct someone to a "BuyNow" site, when they can get them for free at
the poi-factory? If you don't see what you want, just ask, someone will
come up with it.

Where do you find a nationwide directory of RV campgrounds at POI
Factory?

Yes...a poi file of privately owned RV parks. BTW...KOA parks , in
general, are considered a last resort of private RV parks by most
informed RVers.

I suppose an "informed" RVer wouldn't dream of pulling into an Ontario
Provincial Park or a state park either. That would be roughing it, eh?

The point is, it is about choice. And apparently there are some in
this group that don't believe in choice, if it comes with a cost.
Some here apparently feel like they deserve to be provided with the
information they want for free.

The original poster asked about sources of RV park POI files. A link
to the pay site www.gps-poi-us.com was provided, to which the response
was "why provide a paid link when you can get them for free
elsewhere." Despite that being untrue, the point, perfectly
illustrated here, that not everything is available for free. What is
so wrong with giving people options and letting them decide what they
need / want for themselves? If you find what you want for free, go
for it.

Not at all. KOA here in the US are considered over-priced, but are
generaly nice CG's.

KOAs are the McDonalds of Campgrounds. Most of the time - you know
what you're gonna get... having camped at quite a few places - I can
say without reservations that knowing what you are going to get - is
worth something.

Yes, it is worth something, especially if you have a young family and
weekend or vacation travel only. But, for us old geezers that travel a
lot, PPA, COE etc. works better and adds that "box of chocolates" to the
adventure.

I hear you! but I'm been to enough non-brand Diners and Campgrounds
to know that - that box of chocolates is .. not all chocolates...

Those who subscribe to Forest Gumps wisdom with regard to life and a
box of chocolates.. do .. truly.. experience ... all aspects of
life... but I have to ask...

"if you knew".. would you still eat that funny looking chocolate?

ehhh... even KOAs come up short sometimes. We believed a billboard for
a price at one KOA.. signed up.. paid with card.. and found out that
the price was bogus...
their response was... " we told them to take down that sign a year
ago".

Yes indeed. There are some CG's I will never go back to for one reason or
the other.

Seems that most or at least a good percentage of the CG's always cost more
than advertised.

yes of course.. but on your NEXT prospective campground... that maybe
looked a little like the one you'd never go back to.. what do you do?

for instance.. one that we went to... had:

1. - a sign that said no loitering and no chainsaws allowed
2. - speed checked by radar - speeders will be ejected
3. - bathing suits are REQUIRED in the pool
4. - no children with paper diapers allowed in pool

more?

Drive in, have a look around and keep on going if it is a bit to far out.

I can understand why some parks would post those regs.......especially
keeping in mind the location and the majority of customers dispositions
for that area.

I forgot to mention that CG's are not a destination for us, but mostly
just a place to stay while we sight-see or visit. Here again, I realize
that families need more than this with small children.

we're the same. 6 - 8 weeks out at a time... we swing by KOA-type
places when we can't find a handy laudomat.. and want to soft camp for
one night. Otherwise you'll likely find us at places that are lucky to
have a water spigot and a vault toilet... unless... there are none ..
then we shoot for the smaller CGs.

we usually steer clear of places that advertise a bunch of
amenities...

I would like to be able to connect to the Internet more easily
because.. we like to do more research once we get to a place... so I'm
waiting for the cell companies to offer more robust connection/
coverage... right now.. we swing by libraries and other places that
offer WIFI...

but no.. I cannot imagine spending two whole days just at a
campground... I would go stark raving batty... even quicker if I had
kids along..
