I have a several years old version of MetroGuide USA. Depsite it's age, my
MetroGuide has POIs that my brand new Nuvi 650 with City Navagator v8
doesn't have.

Did the databases come from different companies?

Well, I don't even have Nuvi (at least not yet), but I already read it
comes with around SIX (6) millions out of hundred(s) of million POIs. =
And
it gives you the option to add whatever POI's you want to your Nuvi.

And I am pretty sure that I don't care for the POIs you mentioned in
earlier message, but I may want others that you may not care to have.

Just depends on which version of MetroGuide your talking about. The last
3 or so versions were the exact same data as City Navigator.

Unfortunately, the POI database becomes most important when I'm visiting
areas I've never been before, so there's no opportunity for me to add them
before they become needed.

I still don't think you get the idea. Like I have mentioned

- We hay have hundreds of millions of POIs in America, but Garmin =
mentions
it includes 6 millions. IOW, there should be hundreds of millions =
missing,
and you have the option to download and add them (your location) of your
choice.

- It may be important to you but not most others, and Nuvi isn't designed=
to
serve you but all GSP users.

- And where YOU live isn't where I live, and to me it would be nice if
Garmin have all the POIs where you live and replace them with additional
POIs where I live, isn't that nice?

... so like I have mention, you get the tool with nice feature (my =
doesn't
have it) so instead of complaining thing never going to happen, I would
suggest you to find and add the POIs you need yourself.

As I said, impossible.

What you suggested I do is impossible. I can't possibly ever know in
advance what POIs I'll need. I have to trust the map and gps company to do
a competent job of if, and they haven't. 75 year old missing major tourist
attractions is inexplicable and unforgivable.

That's my point... or you just learn to live with the limitation of what
the GPS can provide, and learn to use other options.

- Yours comes with 6 mils (out of tens or hundreds of mils) just like my =
old
Garmins have.

- Yours has option to add your own when mine doesn't.

- My older Garmins don't have a single POIs and I didn't die because they
had none.

- 75 year old tourist attraction may be important to some one but not =
all.
And if people really need it then I don't think that most GPS users will
have much or any problem finding a way to the location.

MG 4.0X did come from a different company and was
the last Metroguide to autoroute. It still shows
more map detail in some more rural areas (e.g.,
Calif east of the Sierras) than does the latest
City Navigator.

POI selection is really annoying to me. Shown in
my neighborhood are such things as in-home daycare
centers, while many of the "real" businesses are
missing or not current.

I haven't found any pattern to it. In many cases recent businesses are
there while decades old businesses are not.

Here in Australia the Garmin mapping comes from Sensis which is a
subsidiary of the major Telecom company Telstra..

This Sensis mob also run the Yellow pages (telephone directory of business
phone numbers) so I guess here in Australia at least unless you advertise
in the Yellow pages you do not get onto the GPS POI.

interesting. If the same holds true in the USA... the folks who do the
yellow pages being the ones who provide businesses POIs ... this might
explain why it appears to be arbitrary with regard to some businesses
being represented and others not.

does anyone have any idea of how this works in the USA with .. say
Garmin and Magellan?
