Some more (difference) about Nuvi 680 vs StreetPilot
|
|
|
| Next week I have to photograph a wedding in near by state, so I have to
add addresses of the bride, broom, church, restaurant to the GPS then I
found a big/small difference between the old StreetPilot and Nuvi 680
- StreetPilot, I just move the current_pointer (the CAR symbol on Nuvi) =
to
the city/town near the address I want to find, then StreetPilot will try =
to
find the Point_Of_Interest (or address) within 30-50+ miles or so. And
StreetPilot will display several similar addresses to choose
- NUVI, it doesn't have the option to move the current_pointer around =
like
StreetPilot does. But it can find address from just anywhere in America,
and it's a nice feature for Home Address or the known address.
*But* if you only know the NAME of the place (like Church, Restaurant,
School etc.) then Nuvi will become a very disadvantage comparing to
StreetPilot.
Example, if I only know the name of the parish "Christ The King" for
example, then with
- StreetPilot I just do
1. Move and set the current_pointer within 30-50 miles from "Christ The
King"=20
2. Then just select something like "worship" and "Christ The King" may =
in
the list
- Nuvi, you are deaf because you can only be able to find "Christ The =
King"
around 30-50+ miles where you are at.
P.S. I was able to copy the original City Navigator 2008 from internal
memory to hard drive.

You can do exactly what you want on the nuvi -- you just don't know how.
[and of course you can move the cursor around.]
First "View Map". Then tap the screen once to put you into the 'move the
map around with your finger' mode. Using the zoom buttons and your
finger, move the map to where you want to search out from. Once you get
the cursor to that 'the city or address near where you want to find',
just tap the 'Set Loc' button. Then, by default, any new searches will
be with reference to that location.
Alternatively, you can choose 'Where to?', tap the 'Near...' button, and
enter the name of the city where you want to search out from.

It does but you have to have the antenna folded down for this to work.
Inconvenient if mounted in a car.
From the 3D screen, tap the car symbol (on the latest firmware, mash the
screen :-) ), and it will change to 2D. With the antenna up, you have a
Save button. That button changes to Set Location when the antenna is folded
down. Use your finger to drag the 2D maps to whatever part of the country
you need. Then tap/mash on the screen and it will move the white cursor
pointer to that location. Then do a Set Location and bingo, the gps is set
to that location. The car symbol will change to the new location. You can
then do POI search from that location.

Actually, you don't have to have the antenna down, though that will give
you the 'set location' button. Even with the antenna up, you can just
pick your new 'search out from' location as the destination of a route --
then do a 'find' of locations 'near' that destination.

Thanks and I will try it again as I did quite afew trick but no go. =
Lets

- I zoom out enough to be able to see the US map, then fingered the area =
I
want, and the ARROW appeared where I pointed.
- I can use finger to move the map around
- If I tap on the cusor it will create a waypoint and try to route from =
the
CAR to the CURSOR. It also give the option to SAVE
OK... I just followed your instruction and you are right .. I missed the
"Sec Loc" option .. I also tried to find the parish by the name it it =
found
it. Now I am happier <bg>

"Sec Loc" was the option I overlooked, or didn't dare to try thing I did
have much idea what it may do. And I have learned now technique now
(similar to StreetPilot but different style).
