Author Garmin's New "H" Series Units

Garmin has not listed this in their "what's new" but it's is interesting
to see the units, especially the Etrex H varieties. The eTrex Vista® HCx
is a lot cheaper ($100) than the comparable 60Cx.

Well, comparable is more than just electronics. I
owned an eTrex Legend and the 60Cx is much easier
to use in terms of the user interface (panning
map, etc.).

Of course these new models may be much improved
that way over my old Legend.

Thanks for the link.

Looks like one comment was made that the Vista HCx is better than the
60Cx. Like always, it's always a risk to buy a brand new model as it
always have bugs. More info/feedback , no doubt is to come.

Not sure re the scope of "better". Reception of
sats, perhaps: Dunno. But the user interface is
also important. With my old Legend I always found
panning the map to be tedious.

I may have to buy one (Hx model) just to test it
against my 60Cx.

I have the old Legend too, I am surprised Garmin hasn't discontinued it.
I found that there is a noticable lag when connecting it to nRoute when
approaching turns and destinations, much more so than the Nuvi 350 that
I once used. I am annyoyed with the panning...it gets my blood pressure
up. Then I again, I have anxiety issues ;-)

Please keep us posted as I have been contemplating getting the 60xx for
quite some time but maybe the new H series is all I need since it is
considerably cheaper. As of yesterday, there were no manuals online for
any of the H series units and it's still not listed in the "What's New"
menu.

Don't know why it would be better, may have different features.
Supposedly the SIrf chips don't provide some pieces of information
until lock is acquired.
Excuse Lowrance gave anyway.

I did notice options on the Legend HCx re color of route that I hadn't
noticed on the other units.
