Garmin 60csx electronic compass
|
|
|
| I use my gps mostly for kayaking. I've noticed that my manual compass
mounted on the deck of my boat is not matched in bearing by the
garmin. I've calibrated twice, made sure that I've selected magnetic
not true north and the garmin is always off by 20-30 degrees. Any
thoughts.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Garmin has built-in compas or works
similar to regular compas. The compas of Garmin usually point to
next_waypoint

You are wrong.
The S in CSX is for sensor; the CS and CSX series have a built in compass,
and a barometer.
Gene, have you calibrated the boat compass.
Are there ant metal objects near the boat compass?

The 60CSx has a built in electronic compass.

| The 60CSx compass needs to be calibrated every time you change
batteries. I often do it a couple of time a day while geocaching
because of possible different metallic content of the soil.

even worse: the 60CSX must be held exactly level. Other than with a
mechanical compass, a small inclination causes a big error.
