| Seems the 'unofficial' policy is to update FREE OF CHARGE the map base of
most of the Garmin products if they were purchased after May 1st of this
year. This is due entirely to the incredibly bad publicity and negative
reaction in the GPS community to the policy of 'what you see is what you
get' when it came to the software installed on Garmin products.
This goes to show the importance of conferences and news groups such as this
one. The word gets out, units get returned in record numbers and the
'retreads' having to be sold at a loss start to add up. Heck, even
Microsoft, as bad an example of business ethics around, knows that as the
approach of a new software version approaches there comes a time when, to
keep sales up, you have to include a free 'update' voucher !
Anyway, get your ducks in line, you will have to fax or email a copy of your
sales receipt or shipping order with all the serial numbers and unlock
codes, call the help line, wait 20 or 30 minutes then present your case.
My free upgrade is on its way.
Good luck !

I recently (July) bought a Nuvi 250....and I realized that policy...
My maps seemed up-to-date until I started to wander around with my job
(salesman...)
Suddenly I noticed many streets of Italy had not mapped (big towns grow
quickly) and wished to update them.
I did not see anywhere any chance to do that on www.garmin.it or
www.garmin.com ...so, do you really think it is going to happen?
