Preloaded maps are locked

| I bought a used Garmin 2730. It came with detail maps (City Select
North America NT v7 Deluxe). Everything was working fine. Now all of
a sudden when I start it, it tells me "Maps Are Locked". I have the
yellow sheet of paper with unlock codes, registration info, etc... But
all the info was preloaded, so I don't have anything installed on my
computer. I can register on their website, and get unlock codes for
my maps. I can run Mapsource and it tells me I now have these maps
unlocked but they are still locked on my GPS. The only disk was the
USB driver disk. There was no disc of maps that came with the
program. How do I unlock the maps on the GPS?

Ah, I had the same problem with my 2720. I called Garmin and they
looked up my records, had me connect the 2720 to my computer then took
control of my machine and reset the internal key. They did not delete
all the "take over code" afterwards, did it myself for security. I
think I know how it happened: My car (Subaru) cuts the power to all
auxillaries when you swith the ignition key to Start, so when you turn
the key you pass through Run which powers the GPS on, the it is cut
off for Start the turned back on for Run. One time when I did this I
saw the screen turn on, off, then the unt reset and I lost all my data
and access to the maps. Have been carefull ever since and it hasn't
happend again, wish the 2720 had an internal battery like my old V
