I am trying to use my GPSMAP CSX60 with streets and tips 2007 running on Vista
Premium. S and T can not find my GPS. I tried something called GPSgate and it
did not help but S and T does see the port that GPSgate assigned to my GPS now.
Is it possible to get my gps to work with Streets and Tips 2007??

Thanks

Assuming you have installed any necessary drivers for your unit have you
set the output of it to NMEA?

Yes and also I can not get it to work with mapsource so I'm now thinking it must
have something to do with my new laptop and or Vista.. Vista shows the GPS
device and working properly with the most up to date driver but S and T and
Mapsource can not find my GPS.

Well I would get it working with Mapsource first (Interface set to
Garmin).

Can't help with Vista issues. That OS is a piece of crap...many
manufacturers are now going back to shipping new pcs with XP because of
all the problems and MS lack of response on correcting them. Obviously
the OS was not ready for prime time!

I know that there are compatibility issues between Vista and
applications built for previous versions. This is especially true for
Vista 64 bit, but the "Trip & Waypoint Manager" (is this a stripped down
version of MapSource?) works and correctly transfers data via USB to and
from the GPSmap 60csx.

Really???

I have been using Vista HP on a Toshiba Satellite P100 since it was
released.

My GPSMap 76CS communicates with the latest version of Mapsource, nRoute,
and all my other GPS utilities.

It also communicates flawlessly with iPod, USB Disks, and my cameras.

I have heard "That OS is a piece of crap..." for every MS release since I
started using MS DOS 2.11!

Three years later, the 'piece of crap' is golden and the newest OS is "That
OS is a piece of crap..." ;0)

The MapSource install from Trip & Waypoint Manager has all the
capabilities of any other MapSource install.

The MapSource application will host any and all MapSource mapping
packages you may happen to own. With another mapping package installed,
you would see a box where you can choose the mapping to be displayed
(only one is seen at a time).

And the mapping in Trip & Waypoint Manager has very little detail in it,
I think it is basically a world map with only major cities and a few
major roads on it.

Substitute Thinkpad w/Vista Ultimate and SP2720 and everything else
including MS DOS 2.11 and I would have thought you were speaking of me...:))

- Do you have the GPS connected to computer?

- If it's connected to cumputer via USB cable then do you have USB driver
installed on computer?

- I haven't lookedt at this for years, but years ago when I first got my
first GPS I read the SOFTWARE(s) had option to connect the GPS to =
computer.

Ok I have it working with Mapsource now. I just needed to update mapsource of
the net. To bad the updated mapsource does not have a GPS tab.

Has anyone gotten S and T to work with Vista and a GPS? S and T does see my GPS
but says it is not getting a signal.

If you are using USB ports, the output of the 60csx will only be in
Garmin protocol which S&T won't recognize, as S&T only accepts NMEA data.
Setting your unit's output to NMEA will require that you use the unit's serial
port. A serial cable with a Garmin fitting and a serial to USB adaptor (with
appropriate driver) will allow S&T to receive usable data.

Great.. NOT.. my unit is a laptop so it does not have a serial port. I only
bought streets 2007 because of it's USB support. I already had 2006. I wonder
if the program called "spanner" or "gpsgate" would help with this??

Ok solved it with GPSgate.. at least it runs on S&T now but it's not seeing the
waypoints on the GPS with Mapsourc.. it's a step in the right direction anyway..
Thanks..
