Garmin 2610 Does Flash Card Speed Matter?

| Need to upgrade to a 2gb compact flash card for my Street Pilot 2610.
Is there any advantage to getting one of the faster CF cards as far as
gps performance goes? Downloading the maps from the pc to a flash
card reader won't matter much since it should be a one-time thing.
Wondering more about whether the gps will respond any faster to route
calcs, turn announcements, direction changes, etc.

If you can get a faster CF on sale you can go for it and if you wind up
using the CF for a camera, etc. later you'll be good to go.
That said, I have an off-brand, 2GB CF in my 2610, don't think it's
rated as a speed demon, and it works just fine. I just download ALL of
CN 2008 to it and while the very first bootup took a bit longer (as it
always does) the calculations, prompts, etc. seem just fine.
FWIW, eCost.com has some GREAT sale prices, you just have to watch for
them or sign up for their daily offerings e-mail.

I don't think faster CF will speed up the GPS (even digital camera does
lot of writting still won't benefit much from fastest CF), and since the
price of CF is dirt cheap these days I would go for faster (you will benefit
if using memory card reader) and larger like 4GB for extra space.

The 2610 can use only 2GB.

I recommend going with the SanDisk Ultra II card as it makes my 2610
much faster in route recalculations and even loading 2610 up at
startup. Standard cards are ok but for the little difference in price
go with the ultra II . You will be happier with faster speed of the
2610. I have 2 2610s and both perform almost as fast as my 2720 with
the faster card.
