CN NT 2008 install - not enough room?
|

| The CN NA NT 2008 installer is tellling me there isn't enough room on my 650
for the entire map update and is forcing me to choose between the lower 48,
and upper US and Canada. I want it all!!
Did anyone else run in to this problem??
As far as I know, I have nothing extra loaded on the internal Garmin drive,
only what came with it!

If your 650 came with all the maps loaded on CNV8 it might be time to call
Garmin for an explanation. I don't have a 650 so can't be of any help here.
Sure doesn't make since though..

A call to Garmin Tech support might sort it out.
Remember the other day when you figured out that when you upload routes
from MapSource, they wind up in a *.gpx file in a folder in main memory?
I wonder if there is any more of that kind of stuff going on.
Have you messed with any supplemental detail maps? If there are any map
files in main memory named gmapsupp.img, that would an additional detail
map that is in main memory and that could be on a SD card.

Good news. I sat on hold for 20 minutes while waiting for support, but
while I was waiting, I figured out what happened before I got to talk with
them.
Apparently the 650 is right at the very edge of capacity. The new maps are
slightly bigger by some 51MB. I had downloaded few additional vehical
graphics which were just enough to push it over the edge.
I just deleted all the optional vehicals other than the blue diamond, about
20MB worth, and now the complete update is installing.
> Have you messed with any supplemental detail maps?
Nope. The only thing I had added to the internal drive was the optional
vehicals.

BTW, it looks like they anticipated this problem. The CD contains 3 IMG
files. 1 for the entire continent, 1 for the 50 states, and 1 for the upper
states plus Canada.

I assume the upper case letters mean All, Lower, and Upper.

That's all I could fit on my c330... but that was OK with me. I never go to
Canada. As an aside, my software showed up today and is installed already
without incident.

I had a couple of problems. Initially the installer keep saying
"communications error with Garmin server" just after entering the key.
After 20 minutes of that I decided to call support. While I was on hold,
the error message changed to "Garmin is experiencing server difficulty,
please try again later" so there didn't seem much point in talking to
support so I hung up. About 20 minutes later I finally got past the error
messages.
Then I immediately ran in to the "not enough space" problem, so I called
support again. While I was on hold again I figured out to delete the
optional vehicles, and the installer picked up and ran. When I figured that
out I hung up from support again.
Each time I was warned that the support hold times were running 30-35
minutes. I never did get to talk to them about the problems before they
were resolved.
I'm at 95% now.

No such error with my 2720 .. but I had not added
to the maps originally installed.

| Anybody have a Nuvi 670? With all this discussion about space for the
new North America 2008 maps, will it coexist in FULL with the European
Maps on the 670?
Does the 670 have more built in memory to deal with this?
Thanks... still waiting for my update for Garmin...
