My suction holder is stuck on my windshield. I tried to pry it off and half
of the rubber disk is "melted" on the glass. Now I am unable to suction the
holder anywhere else. My window is left with a black rubber ring. Is this
suction device have a warranty? Where can I get one for cheap? Anyone else
have this problem? Had it for 6 months now. Love the unit. Thanks group.

Never had that happen. It should not do that though.
I can't leave mine on the windshield on a sunny day as the unit over heats
and looses the sat. loc.
I would guess you best bet would be Garmin for a replacement. Give them
a call and maybe they will send you one with or without warranty.

Is this the standard Garmin suction-cup mount? I was wondering what the
long term effect is with these mounts...I have had a few different
mounts that utilize suction cups on the windshield and they all seem to
fail eventually but the duration varies. Never had one melt.

This was discussed previously somewhere (maybe in another group). That
person contacted Garmin and was sent a new suction cup, no cost.

For the past 3 weeks, the temperature here has been in upper 90's and we
are expecting to hit lower 100's next week or so. Right now it's around
97-98F, and I kinda worry it may melt the rubber <bg>

Even though I have the radar detector sucked to windshield for 4-5 years
without any problem (but it's CLEAR rubber instead of BLACK)=20

It is alleged that sonata32 claimed:

If I leave mine suctioned to the windshield for as little as one day,
it will start to weld itself on from the summer heat. If I leave it
suctioned to the dash-disk, it will eventually lose its grip and fall
off.

I had the same problem - the dealer gave me a new mount at no charge and
advised me to clean all the gunk off the new suction pad (even though you
cannot see it) before sticking it on the window

I stick the suction cup on my girlfriends XXX and believe me she has a hot
XXX, but it never melted.

Call Garmin it will be covered under the warranty.

Try doing that in front of your wife and see what gets melted!

Sounds more like some sort of chemical reaction between the disk and
window cleaner or, perhaps, a liner on the inside of the windshield.
You don't happen to have an older car that has one of those film liners
like the Pontiacs did in the late 80's do you?

Only problem I've ever seen with a suction cup on any radar unit, etc.
I've had (heck, ANY suction cup for any mount) has been a loss of
suction. Never had one start to dissolve, they just get hard and brittle.

Also, I forgot to mention that I always make sure the cup is wet enough =
to
have plenty of moisture to avoind being roasted. And I plain to move to
dask to keep the Nuvi cooler.

Make sure you get the suction cup wet before you stick it on the glass.
And, very important, use WATER, not spit. Using spit will cause this problem.

Many people had that problem including me. I called Garmin and they send me
another mount. They are using a different kind of rubber now.
