Author installing a new world basemap on 60Cx?

I'm heading for Europe and would like to replace the built-in world
basemap in my 60Cx with a more detailed version originally developed
for iQue 3600 ( http://www8.garmin.com/support/down...ails.jsp?id=461
), the way I modified it on my nuvi 350.

However, the internal drive on the nuvi is visible as a separate disk,
but the 64 MB internal memory in 60Cx is not. Does anyone know if it
is possible to install the iQue worl basemap on a 60Cx or similar
GPSr? I'm afraid to just try it for fear of overwriting some critical
files...

It is not possible to change base maps. But if you have another
optional mapping product (WorldMap, City Navigator Europe, etc.,) you
can upload an additional map or maps and choose the map to be displayed.

I don't know if the iQue maps can be used on the 60CSx or not though.

Only one map is seen at a time and there is a hierarchy when you have
more than one map turned on so you may have to turn maps on and off to
see one particular map.

One way to deal with it quickly is to turn all maps off and then turn on
only the one you want to see. That is done from the Map page as follows:

Press Menu, choose Setup Map, press enter,

Cursor right/left to select the Map Setup - Information icon (small "i"
in circle),

Then press Menu and you see all maps listed. Use the Hide All choice
and then press Menu again to go back and choose Show for the maps you
want to see.

There will be a few seconds of delay (the GPS will not respond to key
strokes) as maps are changed.

The choices are self explanatory but maybe a little confusing. As are
the results of your changes. Show=On, Hide=Off, and if you are
"showing" maps from more than one of the optional MapSource products,
only one of them will be seen. The hierarchy is something like:

1 - City Navigator
2 - MetroGuide
3 - BluePoint
4 - Topo

there is no internal memory in a 60Cx - you only have to switch to
mass-storage mode or put the memory card into a card reader.

Hmmm... so where did I just transfer my 55.73 MB topo map to if I
havn't yet bought a microSD card as I'm planning to? In a 60Cx, it
seems it's called 'Data Card' where maps are installed and tracks
logged in. Here is the storage space accounting the GPSr displays:

46% full
Maps: 55.73 MB
Tracks: 0.00 MB
Misc. space: 0.04 MB
Free space: 64.27 MB
Total used: 55.77 MB

BTW, I don't understand the 46% number--46% of what? It simply does
not compute with any combination of the numbers given above, espcially
that this morning's track is listed as using 4% of its available
resources...

Thanks; I have US Topos 100K and 24K. I was able to load a big chunk
of NE coast from VA to ME, which is working fine, but I like the world
basemap for travel in Europe, which is much more detailed than the US
basemap.

The question is, how to load it to 60Cx; would sendmap work? I'm
simply chicken as I'm afraid to overwrite or otherwise mess up the SW
in the unit.

the 'Data Card' seems to be the already plugged in microSD card . . .

the easiest way is:
- set the device to mass storage mode
- rename the WorldWide Basemap of the iQue 'GMAPBMAP.IMG' to
'GMAPSUPP.IMG'
- replace the 'GMAPSUPP.IMG' on the SD card with the WorldWide Basemap

Afterwards the previously uploaded TOPOs are replaced by the WorldWide
Basemap. If you want to combine the WorldWide Basemap with some TOPO
tiles you have to use IMG2GPS - the GUI for Sendmap20

From the sum of the free and used space it looks like you have a 128 MB
card in your GPS. The card is 46% full. The numbers are obtuse because
of the ways that card memory is measured and the different ways it can
be stated. It's hard get the numbers to add up, the percentages are
pretty valid and meaningful though.

Tracks are stored in the track memory that is part of the main memory of
the unit. The track in track memory can be saved as a Saved Track (up
20 can be saved) and those are also stored in main memory in the GPS
receiver.

If you have the Log Track To Data Card option checked, the track data
that is collected will be written to a *.gpx file on the microSD card.
You have to use MapSource or a third party utility to look at the *.gpx
files, you cannot do that from the GPS.

Since most of us will have some free space on the memory card, the best
choice for preserving tracks (and full track data) is to turn the Log
Track To Data Card option on and then simply collect data points at the
rate (by time or distance) that best suits your needs. The Auto rate
will work well for most of us and for most purposes.

On the card you'll find one *.gpx file for each day, in the file will be
track segments for each on/off or fix lost and then regained cycle.

You can use MapSource to send both Topo and Worldmap to 60CSx, as long
as you send all map at the same time.

I have Topo, Worldmap, Bluechart and CityNavigator in my 60CSx at the same
time.
You do not need to use img2GPS
