| Please excuse me if this issue has been discussed here before, but I'm
having trouble searching the Google archives, which for the past few
weeks do not respond properly to a groups keyword search.
Today, my current version of Mapsource (v6.11.6) prompted me with an
upgrade message, which, when followed up, resulted in an unpleasant
surprise - the user interface language went from English to French,
without any indication that this might happen, and without asking me
first whether I wanted this change.
I can only assume that it did this because my O/S (Windows 2000) is
French and Mapsource just assumed that I would like to have that
language - rather than the existing English - as the interface
language in the upgraded version.
Not that I have an any objection to French per se - it is the language
I use most of the time - but for some software originally written by
native speakers of English, I prefer to use the English version, as
localisations are sometime error prone.
What surprises me is that Mapsource should make this decision without
consulting the user first, as is common with most multi-language
software installers - there is a selector. Unless I've overlooked it,
with this version of Mapsource, there is not, and there appears to be
no way back, either, unless I uninstall everything - something I would
expect only from truly "nerd" software.
If anyone knows a workaround, I'd be very grateful.
