It seems to want to simulate the trip from the home location always. How do
I get it to say go from Las Vegas to Sedona without starting at home?

Here is one place where the answer to you question is...
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/...?TOPIC_ID=63780

This is one way to do what you are after - as listed in the site
above.

To quickly move your location to somewhere else:

1. Where to? - input destination/location you want (Seattle/Tacoma
airport) as usual, and "Go!"
2. Let it calculate route
3. Press No to Not simulate
4. Go to Menu again, Where to, and select Near on the places choice
screen
5. Select My Destination at the Search Near screen
6. The screen will return to the places choice screen. Go to the 3rd
page of this area, and select Browse Map.
7. Press Set Location

Now you can go back to the Main screen and do a Where To? to Safeco
Field.

This is the start of a great Nuvi resource...

There is an easier way (I think so anyway) Try this...

where to
near
a different city
OK
"name of the city you want to start from"
done
select city from the list shown
browse map (you may have scroll down to see this option)
Set Loc

You are now 'located' in the city you have set, and can then choose where
you want to go to from that city rather than from where you actually are
now. just do the ordinary simulation goto thing
