Just purchased the NT 2008 and cannot get it to load onto my pc. I
went so far as to wipe the OS and rebuild. (It's XP so it was due soon
anyway!) I installed my full version NT and then tried to install
the update. After struggling for hours trying it get the GPS to
download the maps I switched USB cables. The one from my Sony Camera
is the only one that works. The Garmin cable the came with the unit
won't work on my pc but will on my laptop??? Anyway the new maps were
intalled OK onto the GPS but the maps refuse to install on the pc. I
get an error stating that fact. The GPS appears to work fine and the
Map INfo on the unit reflects NT v2008.

Anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks

I used the following info when installing Mapsource and NT 2008 to my
laptop... you do need an unlock code but that should be available on the
Garmin webpage as long as you are registered....

I can't remember WHO actually posted this, but it really helped me and
it works:

SFB]

Here are the steps to install the CN NA NT 2008 Update to a comptuer. Note
you must have an account created at http://my.garmin.com for this to work.

1) Run the City Navigator North America NT 2008 Update DVD as instructed to
update your Nuvi.

2) After updating the Nuvi, locate the file called
" CNNANT2008Update_ENU
.msi" on the DVD in the Windows\MSI folder and run it.
Note, this is the English installation version, there are other language
versions in the MSI folder.

3) Proceed through the Setup program to install the update to the
computer's
hard drive.

4) After installation, launch the MapSource program. After MapSource
launches you should get a dialog box related to Unlocking the maps.

5) At this stage, log into http://my.garmin.com and select Mapsource
Unlock.
When the Unlock page appears, City Navigator North America NT 2008 Deluxe
Unlock should be listed with an Unlock Code. Copy this code.

6) Return to the MapSource program and proceed through the unlock process
and use the unlock code where indicated. You should only need to enter the
unlock code, not the registration code that was used to update the NUVI.

The city Navigator North America NT 2008 should now be available to view in
the MapSource program. If the unlock fails, the maps can still be viewed to
some extent, but no POI's are shown.

For information on how to use the Garmin POI loader to load custom POI's
into a Nuvi, see GPSrapp's first post for details on how to do so at this
link (the fourth post down in the list):

You are most welcome... FYI when I ordered the NT2008 update they told
me that MapSource was NOT on the CD and that it was incompatible with
2008,,, I was pleasantly surprised when this info was posted in this
group... I just wish I saved the name or email address of the person who
actually wrote this so that she/he could get credit for their time and
efforts!!!

Glad my info could help. I've been passing it along to anyone who asks the
question about installing the update to the computer.

I had initially posted the instructions over on this lengthy CN NA NT 2008
Update thread (page 39):
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/...89&whichpage=39

I had been reading several threads over on GPSPassion and in this group
where people indicated it was possible to install the DVD to the hard drive
but no one would cough up directions on how they did so. I figured I'd pass
along what worked for me so others don't have to spend time searching the
DVD to figure out which file to run.

And as someone else pointed out in this group, with the updated Mapsource
that was on the DVD and installed to the HD when installing the update maps;
you can now use the Mapsource program to send and receive the POI's
(waypoints) on the Nuvi. I haven't actually sent any POI's to the Nuvi yet,
but was able to retrieve the POI's from my Nuvi and save the to my computer
via Mapsource.
