Nuvi 680 firmware and Bluetooth
|
|
|
| Last nite I read about newer firmware v4.0 which I downloaded and
installed, then I read it has some bugs and Garmin removed from their =
site
etc.. I didn't even have the chance to test it out, but decided to go =
back
to v3.8
And these are what I have found out about downloading from v4.0 -> v3.8
- All POIs and Waypoints get wiped out, and start all over.
- Bluetooth (cellphone) got wiped out, and now I can't be able to PAIR.
Before I had no problem paring, but it only worked TWICE and I had to
disabled because I kept getting "phone disconnected". I have Samsung =
A900
- Before, when I checked ABOUT (or GPS info), it reported BlueTooth v2.80
*twice* when most of the times it report Bluetooth v0.00. This time it
reports Bluetooth v2.80

My bad! I didn't PAIR right and I had to open the manual to follow the
instruction. My err
- I set the cellphone to Add/Search-mode when I shouldn't do anything, =
but
let the Nuvi-680 find then turn on the cellphone to Bluetooth windows =
there
I just enter the Key #1234
And now the Bluetooth is working fine now.

That's not good Joel. Sounds like that 4.0 seriously screwed up anyone
unfortunate enough to download it.
And they also recalled the 200 series 3.0 update today. 2 messed up updates
in 2 days. Maybe their QA guy is on vacation.

I know. lot of Waypoints being wiped out and I will need to go to
Whitepages.com to find the addresses. Some waypoints don't even have
address (some took me hours to locate the spot <bg> ).

But the BlueTooth is now working, and I hope it will continue to work.

I remember you doing a backup of your Nuvi at one point. Do you have a copy
of the pre-upgrade "current.gpx"?

| I check the Nuvi 680 update page on the Garmin web site periodically and
have never seen a firmware update there. Are they only visible by running
WebUpdater?

Well, the Bluetooth worked indoor (after I paired it) TWICE, then once
again I am getting "Phone Disconnected" message outdoor.
Hmmmm I just tried INDOOR and the bluetooth works again. May be =
something
is wrong with the dock (cable to the dock) or something else?

Yes, I copied the who Nuvi map to hard drive. But I don't think it has
anything cuz it was pretty new (no waypoint) when I copied it.
