Difficulty aquiring satellites???

| Hello,
I got the Garmin Street Pilot C340 and it was working okay fine, but after
plugging it into my PC to try the usb charger it failed to turn back on.
There was a usb driver install failure, and the usb charger install didnt
work. The unit shut off and wouldnt come back on. I called Best Buy and was
told you can reset it as listed in the instructions. I removed the face
plate and reset it.
I reset it and was able to get it to come back on.
Later I went back in my car and turned it on again and it was okay, but it
won't aquire the satellite. It asks if I am indoors and I say no, and then
it asks if I am in my state and if the date is right and I answer yes and
still it cannot aquire the satellite. The car was parked in the same place
and I later tried driving around some of the streets in my area for 30 min
and still no luck. It was working in the daytime and at night it wasnt. The
weather where I am is cloudy, but not that fully if that helps at all. The
signal on the device shows no signal in the upper left corner.
I am in RI in case that helps.
Any suggestions??

Alfred :)

Try taking it out of the car and see if it will acquire. Your windshield
may have a metallic coating.

| I don't think thats the situation, because it was aquiring the satellites
fine before I reset it. Its just after that it is not.

If the time is way off, that could be a problem.
But if you tell it where you are *and* are not
moving, it should acquire in far less than 30 min.

makes me think you might have a more serious
problem requiring a trip to Garmin.

| Well I bought the item on ebay, first of all it was mis represented, because
it said "new in box" in the ad, but when i recieved it, the box said that it
was "newly overhauled". Second the item is obviously defective and I am
requesting a refund and working with PayPal to contact the seller and will
take further actions if needed.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Contact Garmin in your country.
Simon.

I didn't pay attention to the original message to know *if* the antenna =
is
UP or DOWN.

| Theres no antenna to put up or down. Anyway I contacted the seller and I am
going to return it. The next time I buy one will be from a store where I
know for sure that it is brand new and not refurbished.
