MapSource software version 6.13.1
|
|

| Last week, I installed the new Mapsource 6.13.1
Yesterday, I tried to upload some waypoints/routes to my 2610 unit in
preparation for a holiday trip. The unit was not recognised.
I uninstalled the software and reinstalled my older version. Still no
joy. When I attached my 2610 the system (Win2K) crashed. Eventually
after some hard searching I twigged. The 6.13.1 version had installed
new USB drivers overwriting my old ones. These clearly did not work at
all. Win2k does not crash easily.
So I reinstalled Mapsource 6.13.1 (needed as I had already created
files with it that could not be read on the older version), then
swapped the new drivers in winnt/system32/drivers for old backup ones
dating from 2003. Everything is fine.
You'd think someone in the know would actually try these drivers out
before putting them in new software releases. Clearly not!

Sorry you had that problem - it worked OK first time with my GPSMAP60
in WinXP. =20
I did have one problem though that others may like to know about - for
an upcoming holiday I had worked out half a dozen routes in Mapsource
using City Navigator. I had saved them, put them into my MAP60, then
later tried to import them into nRoute so my wife could get verbal
instructions and a large screen to navigate by using my laptop, rather
than the small screen of the MAP60 which she hates. Unfortunately,
nRoute would not accept the files.
It turns out that Mapsource now saves .gdb files by default in a V3
format, while nRoute will only accept V2 files. Fortunately,
Mapsource has the capability to "save as" in V2 format, so all my work
was not lost.

So I don't get caught by the same thing,. what was the filename(s) of the
drivers you had to install the older version of?

grmngen.sys v2.1 17,024 bytes 28/07/2005 (or 23/09/2003)
grmnusb.sys v2.1 7,296 bytes 28/07/2005 (or 23/09/2003)
The important file is the (smaller) Garmin USB one. I don't know what
the other (generic) driver does, probably nothing but it was installed
at the same time.
The 2003/2005 drivers work ok. They are exactly the same so I don't
understand why they have different date stamps It's the 2007 drivers
that cause the problems from Mapsource 6.13.1, viz:
grmngen.sys v2, 2, 1, 0 18,432 bytes 08/03/2007
grmnusb.sys v2, 2, 1, 0 8,320 bytes 08/03/2007
Hope that's clear!

It is indeed. Thank you very much for the information!
